Inspiring today's learners to meet tomorrow's challenges through faith, academics & service

Rooted in Christ
We believe each student is a child of God, and are reminded daily to embrace the Gospel message to make a difference in the world.

Excelling in the Classroom
We work in partnership with parents to provide each child the opportunity to grow according to his or her needs.

Serving Our Community
We strengthen our Catholic identity through lived expressions of faith, community, worship, and service.
"Community is at the heart of all Catholic education, not simply as a concept to be taught, but as a reality to be lived."
- JOHN PAUL II
Welcome!
Hello!
I would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to join us at St. Michael School. St. Michael School is a Catholic school that begins with preschool and continues through eighth grade. With several options for preschool classes and full-day Kindergarten, our students embark on an academic journey with the support of a family of teachers and students during their formative years.
With campuses in Independence and Brecksville, we look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have! If you are looking for more information on joining the St. Michael family, you can visit our Admissions Page. Check out our virtual open house of some of our classrooms, on our Visit Page. Finally, if you have any questions about admissions or enrollment, you may contact us Monday - Friday at 216-524-6405 or email me anytime at dennis.kowalski@stmichaelschoolinfo.com and I will answer any questions you may have! We are excited to start this new adventure with you.
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as your interim principal for the remainder of the 22-23 school year at St. Michael’s School. I attended SMS from grades 1-8 along with my three brothers and two sisters. My first teaching job was at St. Michael’s in third grade, during that year I developed an affection for teaching which I continue today. I attended Kent State, Cleveland State, and the University of Akron where I earned a Doctorate in Education. I taught for four years in the Cleveland Schools and served as intern principal for three years. I spent thirteen years with the Warrenville Hts schools as an elementary and secondary principal and completed my public-school work serving as superintendent for twelve years in Strongsville. I began teaching at universities in 1988 after receiving my doctorate and have taught at least one class per semester since. I teach leadership and learning psychology coursework. I was blessed to start my formal elementary learning at SMS, teach my first assignment in third grade; and as my career ends serve as interim principal. It is my circle of learning!
Please consider joining the SMS family. The teachers and support staff dedicate their efforts to pursue a fulfilling learning experience in a faith-filled catholic setting. If my grandchildren lived in this area they would be enrolled here at my alma mater. I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Dennis Kowalski
Principal, St. Michael School
