SMS Family of the Month 2018-19 School Year
The Saint Michael School January 2019 Family of the Month is the Jollliffe Family of Independence.
Jeff and Angela Jolliffe have two SMS Blue Angels, seventh-grader Cy and fourth-grader Anderson.
The Jolliffe family is proud to be a part of the St. Michael School community because it shares the same faith and values as they do. Whenever they talk about St. Michael School to those who haven’t heard of it, they mention, “We are part of a community that has similar values and beliefs to ours. This enables our children to be educated in an environment much like our own household. Our boys have made the best friends who also share similar values and interests. St. Michael School provides both a great education and important life skills for our children.”
Jeff and Angela chose St. Michael School for their children because they wanted their children in smaller classes, to have hands-on learning, to go on field trips, and mentioned, “Wearing a uniform is always a plus!” They also prefer a curriculum with religious classes and weekly Masses.
Cy and Anderson are both involved in Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) basketball. Additionally, Cy is a member of Kiwanis Builders Club, Bowling Club, and Jump Rope Club.
Jeff and Angela recognized the invaluable impact the SMS community has had on their children. “We believe St. Michael School’s academic education is preparing our boys for high school and beyond. We are also certain our boys are receiving a moral education that focuses on gratitude, empathy, tolerance, forgiveness, kindness, and community compassion and responsibility. We would like our children to focus not only on learning but on caring and helping members of the community. St. Michael School encourages this behavior and the impact it has on our boys is invaluable.”
The Saint Michael School December 2018 Family of the Month is the Hojdar Family of Walton Hills.
Dan and Kristen Hojdar have two SMS Blue Angels, one current student and one graduate. Paige is presently in 8th grade and Austin, a 2016 alumnus, is in 11th grader at Holy Name High School.
Austin and Paige have been involved in Science Olympiad, Sketchbook Club, and Drama Club at SMS. Additionally, they have acted as leaders through their involvement in STEM club as student facilitators, qualification for the state championship with the Power of the Pen team, and six-year participation in Student Government, even serving as president.
As seen in their children’s extracurricular activities, the Hojdar family said that SMS was the best choice for their children because it encourages their academic success and growth. “We are proud to be an SMS family because of the academics and opportunities given to our children, preparing them for the future,” stated the family. “The teachers have been fantastic at every level.”
Dan and Kristen especially emphasize how St. Michael School has prepared their children for high school through the experiences and educational opportunities offered. In particular, they reference the confidence their children have when speaking in front of other people. “We always mention that public speaking and being comfortable doing so started in second grade and has given our kids the confidence to speak in front of large groups,” they said. “Once again, preparing them for high school situations and beyond.”
